Company Description RiKarbon is a growing startup with a mission to develop proprietary technologies and high-performance sustainable products from non-conventional feedstocks to meet growing consumer needs in the sustainable value-chain. The company’s initial product offerings include renewable base-oils and ingredients for cosmetics and environmentally-acceptable lubricants. In addition to enabling technology development, product scale up and process optimization for initial product offerings, the company is rapidly expanding its technology portfolio to serve broader sustainability initiatives, e.g. waste plastics upcycling, and seeking a Ph.D. scientist who can work independently in a growing multi-functional team environment.

Job description On a daily basis, the Research Scientist will (1) contribute to laboratory operations for condensation, hydrogenation and hydrodeoxygenation reactions and processes, (2) brainstorm and lead waste plastics upcycling technology, (3) supervise Research Technicians, (4) participate in meetings with collaborators/partners/customers,  and (5) write reports and proposals for external funding.

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US. 
  • Ph. D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. 
  • Research/work experience on heterogeneous catalysts preparation, catalyst characterization by spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, catalysis, organic products analysis by chromatographic/mass spectrometric techniques is preferred.  
  • A few years industrial experience is preferred but not necessary. 
  • Experience in working with high-pressure reactors and reaction systems.
  • Operational experience with both small-scale and large-scale laboratory equipment (e.g., glass and Parr reactors).
  • Ability to multi-task and quickly switch between activities.
  • Results-driven and team-player attitude, willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and technicians.
